Why does McComb need a new school?
The original building was constructed in 1923. More than a century later, the facility has aging building systems and spaces that were not designed for modern teaching, technology, security or student programming.
What will students gain from a new school?
The new PK–12 school would provide flexible classrooms, dedicated spaces for science, visual arts, music, special education and a Multi-use Studio Lab, along with an auditeria, auxiliary gymnasium, locker rooms and modern technology and building systems.
How much State of Ohio funding would McComb receive?
Approximately $21.6 million in committed State of Ohio funding, representing about 39% of the project funding package.
This funding is currently committed to the McComb project. To retain the State’s commitment, McComb must secure its local share by November 2027; otherwise, the State funding would become available for redistribution to other prioritized school districts.
What will the levy cost me?
The proposal combines a 6.99-mill property tax with a 0.25% traditional income tax. Individual cost depends on property value and taxable income. Use the cost chart and Hancock County Property Tax Estimator for additional information.
What happens to the existing school?
The proposal calls for construction of a new PK–12 school while usable portions of the existing facility would remain in service to McComb.
